At our traditional worship services, you will encounter passionate musicians and singers leading us in worship. The services have excellent hymnody alongside inspiring choral, orchestral, and organ music. Each week our music staff and pastors plan and organize services in a way that brings honor and glory to God, and invites congregants to encounter God in new ways through musical worship, scripture reading, biblical sermons, and moments of prayer.
Our Ignite service invites worshipers to grow and engage in their relationship with God in a modern setting. Our music staff and pastors plan a service that holds reverence and sacredness, but also has a contemporary feel. The Ignite band plays both ancient hymns and modern songs, all of which bring glory and honor to God. Worshipers are invited to actively participate through hymns and songs, Scripture reading, prayer, and a sermon.
Our desire is to create a community of worshipers. We believe that worship has the ability to transform individuals, congregations, and cultures. Our excellent musical leadership invites congregants, as well as instrumentalists and choral members, to grow in their knowledge and love of God. We involve musicians from the congregation and the community in all services. Through the Music & Arts ministry, we seek to cultivate meaningful relationships: first on a spiritual level with God, and second on an interpersonal level within our community.
We continue to facilitate and host events, both on our campus and in the community. Past concerts include the annual Christmas@First Concert, a performance of Handel’s Messiah, the Southern Gospel Homecoming, and the Night of Prayer held at the TD Stage with our neighbors from Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. We partner with local groups and schools, providing facilities and opportunities for engagement and growth.
We are passionate about facilitating music education within the First Pres community. We encourage students to participate in choir, orchestra, and the Ignite band as a way for them to both gain live, professional experience and to create meaningful relations with staff and congregants who share similar giftings. Our many opportunities for children and students include the Carol, Cherub, Covenant, and Resonate choirs, and the Roots band. We are continuing to grow our handbell choir, Sanctuary choir, orchestra, and Ignite band. In the future, we hope to offer classes and workshops for congregants on topics such as hymnology, music literacy, modern worship, organ basics, and more.
Worship & Arts Center
We are excited to host a series of events to celebrate the completion and opening of the Worship & Arts Center in 2022. We desire to use this new facility for worship services and church events, as well as for community initiatives and educational opportunities. The space will be an incredible way to connect with people from the church and the community, and we are excited to see how this space will contribute to our mission of transforming the city.
