National Day of Prayer

National Day of Prayer
Sunday 15th of March 2020

Heavenly Father, as we seek your presence on this National Day of Prayer we come to You amidst significant national and personal challenges.

Today we confess that we are anxious, uncertain and even a little fearful. As a nation we are conscious that complex and significant concerns lie before us. Yet amidst the increasing difficulties of a state of emergency, a global pandemic, and a significant number of our citizens facing quarantine, we pray for our medical professionals. Grant to them a profound dependency on You as they continue to provide guidelines on the best way to respond to these challenges. Equip hospitals and healthcare facilities with the resources they need, protect their staff and strengthen them for the challenges before them.

Father, we also pray for the most vulnerable in our society. Put Your hand of grace and protection upon them and grant to each one your comforting presence. We commit to You our children and grandchildren, our senior adults and all who struggle with chronic illnesses. Enable us to reach out and assist those in need. Remind us to be thoughtful and cautious when interacting with others in order that we might minimize the threat of further contamination yet also expressing our love, practical care, and concern.

Father, finally we pray for those in local and national leadership. Grant to them Your peace amidst enormous pressures and uncertainty. May their leadership be defined by consensus through compassion, insight informed by expertise and enlightened by medical experience.

Grant to each of us a profound sense of gratitude as we remember that in Your sovereign purposes we are a people: conceived in liberty and shaped by adversity, while being fully dependent on you;

In God we trust, believing the promise of Your word,
Your hand sustains, affirming the wonders of Your love.
Your grace, it knows no boundaries, transcends the test of time;
for trusting faith births freedom upheld by love divine.
The years before us call us, to trust and faith and prayer.
Our nation's hopes and future remains within Your care.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen
