CONGREGATIONAL CARE

CARING FOR OTHERS

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (NIV)

Our church values, supports, and prays for the First Pres men and women serving in every branch of the U.S. military, at home and abroad. The purpose of this ministry is to assist church members of our congregation serving in the Armed Forces (Active Duty, Reserves, and National Guard) in the integration of their faith and witness into their professional military life. Our mission is To “Raise Up A Godly Military” and share the love of Jesus Christ with our church members serving. The Light and Life ministry

The mission of the The Light & Life Ministry is to equip Presbyterians and other Reformed bodies to champion the sanctity of human life at every stage of development.

The Light & Life Ministry seeks to:

  • Equip members of First Pres with knowledge and resources so we can live out and defend our commitment to the sanctity of human life that is in our Essential Tenets of Faith.
  • Provide life-affirming Christ-centered resources to women who are faced with bearing children in difficult situations.
  • Increase awareness by shedding light on the devastating effects of child loss before birth due to abortion, and provide confidential and biblical healing resources to both women and men.
  • Share the transforming message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that those wounded by abortion can be healed and set free to live the abundant life God created them for.

For more information, contact Stephanie Johnson at fpclightandlife@gmail.com or 864.907.1516.

Speak Up for Life Conference

Do you believe we are all made in the image of God and that every life, no matter how small, has dignity, value and is sacred to God? Scriptures tell us God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

If this resonates with you, please take a few minutes to view videos from the 2019 Speak Up for Life Conference (click on the links below). Guest speaker, Scott Klusendorf, president of the Life Training Institute, answered the key question “What is the unborn?” and made a persuasive case for life that will inspire, encourage and equip you to “Speak Up for Life!”

Hospital Visitation

Our Pastors are scheduled to visit the hospitals every day and the nursing homes every week. Homebound members are visited quarterly and offered Communion. If you are scheduled to go into a hospital or nursing home, or if you are homebound and can't get to church, please contact the church so we will be sure to provide ongoing pastoral care.

PASTORAL VISITATION
MINISTRY

The Pastoral Visitation Ministry (PVMs) exists to enlarge and extend the pastoral heart throughout the congregation of FPC. PVMs are both trained and gifted with nurturing hearts and compassionate temperaments. They visit those members of our congregation who have suffered a death or other loss, those who are alone and lonely, those who are ill and homebound, those recently discharged from the hospital, and those who face a traumatic situation. PVMs serve and report directly to our pastors, alerting them to situations that need deeper or expanded care.

Turner Memorial Fund

One of the main objectives of the First Presbyterian Church mission statement is “We will love others through service after the example of Christ.” The goal of the Turner Memorial Fund is to help any member or family who is in a financial crisis and has no other place to turn. The fund is named in memory of Dr. Fred P. Turner, a former pastor, who was instrumental in helping to meet the financial needs of individuals and families in emergency situations.

The funds for this ministry are solely dependent upon member contributions. The Turner Memorial Fund Committee, a sub-committee of the Congregational Care Ministry, reviews each request and determines how the funds are distributed. Contributions are needed and greatly appreciated. Click below to request assistance or for further information.
